Small Projects

The projects in which I experimented with and learned more in-depth features.

Abandoned City

2023 February - April

This was one of my projects, where I attempted to create an abandoned city. I wanted the city to be node-based so that it could be expendable and fully customizable, using several input values such as the minimum/maximum height of the building, tree density, Ivy height, wire quantity, and quantity of each asset inside the city.

Knowledge and Skills Learned in This Project

I expanded my knowledge in areas such as geometry nodes, texturing, assets libraries, modeling, sculpting, tree and ivy generation, and particle systems.

Landscape

2023 July

For this project, I attempted to create realistic terrain in Blender. The concept was simple: use NASA high data to create an elevation of the terrain and use Google Earth imagery as a texture. This method turned out to be very easy to implement and was very good for the background landscape. However, the textures looked flat up close, and the elevation data needed to be more detailed for up-close shots. I later learned that program Gaea is much better for creating realistic terrain and is not limited to real-world terrain, giving more freedom.

Knowledge and Skills Learned in This Project

Modeling, BlenderGIS, Google Maps textures, HDRI, world lighting, and texturing.
